On June 1 we were fortunate to have Jane Steeves of 3dogknits Fibre Arts lead an indigo dye workshop for the guild. We worked outside on a bright, sunny day on the grounds of the Simcoe County Museum. Each of us brought a scarf warp of a natural fibre such as wool, cotton, Tencel or linen to dip into the vats of indigo dye that Jane brought. This truly is a magical process! In goes the warp, a white or cream colour, and out it comes, first green then turning blue in a matter of minutes as it oxidizes. We never tired of watching this transformation. We all look forward to seeing these warps once they have made another transformation, this time into scarves, when we meet again in the fall.
